10 Awesomely Geeky Blankets to Knit and Crochet

When I first learned how to crochet all I made were afghans, so I am a sucker for an awesomely designed blanket. My blankets, however, were made of boring granny squares and ripples with pretty color changes. The lovelies below are just badass. Wouldn’t you love to have one on your bed or thrown over your sofa? I want to make all of these!

1. A Galaxy Far, Far Away

List01swcrochet
This is a Star Wars beauty. Check out Not All Who Wander Are Lost 32 for the pattern.

2. Super Mario Screenshot Afghan

List01Mario
This beautiful rendering of Super Mario Bros. is by allisontendo over on Instructables (check it out for the free pattern), and as she points out, retro games are easy to translate to crochet due to their pixelation. I actually might make this for my sis for Christmas or something:)

3. Assassin’s Creed Revelations Ottoman Crest

List01ACcrest
This Assassin’s Creed knit blanket would be perfect for a gaming room or den. Check out Ravelry.com for the pattern.

4. Pokemon Blanket

List01Pokemon
Alas, no pattern for this lovely, but just bask in its awesomeness! This blanket was designed and crocheted by stephyw2001 over on Sprite Stitch Board.

5. TARDIS Blanket

List01TARDIS
Check out this child-sized TARDIS blanket! You can get the crochet pattern for free over on Ravelry. This pattern could easily be expanded to make it adult-sized, because let’s face it – we’d want this one for ourselves.

6. Harry Potter Blanket

List01HP
Here’s an awesome patchwork crochet blanket for Harry Potter fans. Miranda graciously put up her pattern on her blog over on Modern Day Rapunzel.

7. Gamer Afghan

List01gamer
Here’s another great square-along blanket featuring some great video games. Alicia1018 included a link to the pattern in her post (which is on Ravelry).

8. Mario Blanket Take 2

List01Mario2
Check this one out! It just boggles my mind – I would never be able to take the time to make this one, but Gege Crochet spent blood, sweat and tears making this for her hubby. She did not use graphs for this project, but she did create a FAQ section on her blog and posted some videos, so you might be able to do something similar to this if you really wanted to (I feel exhausted just looking at this one, haha).

9. Portal Companion Cube

List01Portal
Aww, I would be remiss if I didn’t include this beautiful Portal blanket. The pattern is up for free on Instructables.

10. Take This Throw

List01Zelda
This Zelda throw hits close to my heart, and I may have to make this one for sure – it’s just a throw blanket so it wouldn’t take too long. Ana Petree Garcia designed several of these retro blankets and is selling them on Etsy. Alas, no pattern, but if you really wanted to make one for yourself, you could probably figure it out by the photo.

Are you inspired yet? Which one is your favorite?
